Plaza del Caribe is a enclosed shopping mall located in Ponce, Puerto Rico. It is owned by Empresas Fonalledas, which also owns Plaza las Americas in San Juan, and it is the largest mall in southern Puerto Rico.
The mall is located at the intersection of Puerto Rico Highway 2 and Highway 12. The mall has over 130 stores and is anchored by Sears and JCPenney. Junior anchors include Capri, a Caribbean Cinemas movie theater and Old Navy, as well as a food court. There was a freestanding Circuit City on the mall for a brief time but closed after the company went bankrupt.
Much like Plaza las Americas, it is notable for its sophisticated design, featuring artwork scattered through the mall, especially on its central atrium. The mall is accessible from both its first and second floor.
As of September 16, 2010, there were plans to add a 10-screen multiplex will open in time for the Christmas 2010 holiday season in the immediacy of the mall. The location is immediately south of the main mall complex in an area bounded by Autopista Luis A. Ferre.[1]
